It is a new dawn for 130 youth in Moshi after finishing the six months VETA trainings under 2jiajiri project in construction sector. The trainings will be instrumental in fostering employability and enterprises development in the country.
This project is implemented through a 50/50 partnership between KCB Bank through KCB Foundation and GIZs’- Employment and Skills for Development in Africa programme, aimed to increase the employability and income generation of 960 Tanzanian youth in the construction sector.
The EUR 846,000 partnership from October 2021 until October 2023 aimed at providing youth with technical and vocational skills training. The funds also supported the provision of construction toolkits to youth, to enable them to start up business enterprises in the construction sector.
Speaking during the event in Moshi, the Regional Commissioner for Kilimanjaro region, Hon. Nurdin Babu said, “Empowering youth remains a cornerstone towards achieving national development plans through improving the quality of country’s labor force”.
The programme among other things seeks to create skilled and self-sufficient youth who can be employed or employ themselves while cultivating the spirit of entrepreneurship in the country.
"Youth empowerment is key in ensuring national economic growth; this is because youth population is a large source of manpower that can work in different sectors like agriculture, construction, mining…
"This initiative is a sign of organisations willingness to improve youth employability through skills development that will help them to be employed and develop enterprises. I commend this partnership between KCB Bank Tanzania and E4D for supporting 960 youth and the government is fully supporting this noble cause," he noted.
KCB Bank Tanzania, through its Foundation, has put in place several initiatives to ensure it empowers communities inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), women and youth being one of the key focus in fostering economic transformation. Speaking during the graduation ceremony in Moshi, the Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Christine Manyenye representing the Managing Director, said the partnership came at the right time as there was a rising demand of labor in construction sector thus the need to prepare more youth to grab the opportunities.
“This re-affirms about KCB Bank commitment to transform lives of people beyond making profit. We are happy to have successfully implemented this project and today we are rewarding beneficiaries with certificates and 36 toolkits to support in enterprises development. It is our belief that this project will deliver a long-lasting impact in their communities.” She said.
“The results of this cooperation, is aligned to the priorities of the government in addressing skill gaps and promoting employment in-line with the government’s initiatives such as the National Skills Development Strategy and the Five-Year Development Plan’ 2021/22 - 2025/26”, earlier remarks by GIZ country Director, Dr. Mike Falke.
He continued by saying, “GIZ acknowledges the determination of the Tanzanian government in investing and developing local talents.
